Plan to Expand Submarine Fleet on the Agenda in Israel

Israeli security units, taking into account the increase in the submarine capacity of the Turkish Naval Forces, have presented a strategic recommendation to the Tel Aviv administration to expand the current fleet to a capacity of eight through new acquisitions.

Strength of the Turkish Naval Forces

According to information featured on Israel Army Radio, the Turkish Naval Forces currently possess fourteen operational submarines, and this number is expected to increase to eighteen in the coming years. The Tel Aviv administration is closely monitoring this development of submarine power in the region.

Israel's Current Situation

While Israel currently has five submarines at its disposal, the sixth submarine is expected to arrive in the country soon. Defense officials advocate for increasing this number with new and advanced technology vehicles of German manufacture.

Agreement Made with Germany

Within the framework of the recent agreement signed with Germany, Israel holds the option to purchase a seventh submarine at the same price, but this right has not yet been utilized. Officials want this option to be activated before any price increases occur.

Political Process and Decision Stage

According to defense sources, the submarine procurement move cannot take place until the elections in the country, and this step is expected to be taken by the new government. Discussions regarding personnel strength have not yet been examined at the General Staff level.
