Poll Prior to Brazil Elections Shows Lula Ahead
The latest public opinion poll conducted by Datafolha has revealed that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is ahead of his opponent in a potential second round of the presidential election.
According to the Datafolha poll published ahead of this month's elections in Brazil, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva leads his opponent, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, by 3 percentage points in a potential second-round scenario.
Potential Second-Round Scenario
According to the poll results published by Datafolha on Thursday, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva reached 48 percent of the vote in the simulated second-round ballot, while Flavio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of the former president, stayed at 45 percent. In previous poll results, Lula had 47 percent and Bolsonaro had 45 percent support.
State of Technical Tie
Due to the poll's margin of error of 2 percentage points, this outcome is still evaluated by experts as a technical tie.
First-Round Vote Distribution
In the first-round scenario, Lula takes the lead with 42 percent of the votes. He is followed by Bolsonaro with 38 percent, Augusto Cury with 4 percent, Ronaldo Caiado with 3 percent, and Renan Santos with 3 percent. In the previous poll, the left-wing leader held 40 percent and the right-wing senator held 36 percent.
Election Schedule and Details
If no candidate wins more than 50 percent of the valid votes in Sunday's first round, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will compete in the second-round elections to be held on October 25. Datafolha conducted the research between September 29 and October 1 with the participation of 2,506 people.
