Republican People's Party waives appeal in convention lawsuit

The Republican People's Party announced that it has withdrawn its previous appeal against the decision of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice. It was stated that the decision was taken in order to complete a sound convention process as soon as possible.

CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Müslim Sarı announced in a statement on his social media account that they have withdrawn from the appeal for the convention lawsuit. The statement expressed that the party decided to waive its previous appeal regarding the relevant judicial ruling.

Convention Schedule and Rationale

In line with the ordinary congress schedule announced at the Central Executive Board meeting held on September 10, 2026, the party aims to complete a legitimate and sound convention process as soon as possible. It was stated that this decision was made considering that a lengthy appeal review could delay the convention process.

Party Status and Resignations

The fact that Özgür Özel and his colleagues, who were parties to the appeal, resigned from the party and founded a new party eliminated their status as parties to the case. It was noted that if Özgür Özel also withdraws his application, the court decision will become final.

Court Process and Background

In the lawsuit regarding the 38th Ordinary Convention won by the CHP Group Chairman of the period, Özgür Özel, the court had issued a decision of absolute nullity. With this decision, the court had deemed the convention invalid and reinstated the previous chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his boards to office. Following the decision, the CHP under Özel's administration had carried the file to the Court of Cassation.
