Precipitation in Turkey Reached the Highest Level in the Last 66 Years
Precipitation across the country saw a significant increase in the first 11 months of the 2026 water year, well exceeding the multi-year average.
Precipitation recorded in Turkey in the first 11 months of the 2026 water year increased by 77 percent compared to the same period of last year, reaching the peak of the last 66 years.
Historical Increase in Precipitation Amount
According to official data from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, an average of 709.2 kilograms of precipitation per square meter fell in the period between October 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. This amount was 29 percent above the multi-year average of 548.5 kilograms.
Distribution by Provinces and Records
While precipitation was measured at or above normal levels in 79 provinces across Turkey, it remained below normal only in the provinces of Bursa and Tekirdağ. Rize became the province with the highest precipitation with 1455.2 kilograms per square meter, while Iğdır received the lowest precipitation with 384.9 kilograms.
Regional Increases and Highest Levels
On a regional basis, the highest increase was experienced in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, where the region's precipitation increased by 46 percent compared to its multi-year normal. The highest 11-month precipitation levels of the last 66 years were reached in the provinces of Adana, Düzce, Hatay, Isparta, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Kayseri, Niğde, Ordu, Osmaniye, Tokat, Yozgat, Manisa, and Giresun.
