Pregnant woman rescued from ship accident in TRNC brought to Kocaeli

Menekşe Nur Akkaya Gökdaş, an 8-month pregnant woman rescued alive from the ship that capsized off the coast of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was transferred to Kocaeli by an ambulance plane belonging to the Ministry of Health.

Following her treatment in Nicosia, 8-month pregnant Menekşe Nur Akkaya Gökdaş, who was rescued from the ship accident in the TRNC, was transferred to Kocaeli by a Ministry of Health ambulance plane upon the request of her family.

Transfer Process with Ambulance Plane

Following her treatment at Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital, an ambulance plane belonging to the Ministry of Health of Turkey was deployed upon the request of the family.

Brought to Ercan Airport by ambulance from the hospital accompanied by doctors, the 8-month pregnant Menekşe Nur Akkaya Gökdaş was transferred via the plane departing for Turkey.

Thanks to Authorities from Her Husband

Menekşe Nur Akkaya Gökdaş was accompanied during the flight by her husband, Volkan Gökdaş, who made statements to members of the press at the airport.

Volkan Gökdaş expressed his gratitude to the authorities for taking care of them from the very first moment of the accident and for fulfilling their request for an ambulance plane.

The Name They Will Give Their Baby

It was stated that the couple had normally planned to name their baby girl Deniz Ecem, but decided to name their child to be born Alara following the ship accident they experienced.

Statement from Minister Memişoğlu

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu announced in a social media post that the 35-week pregnant citizen affected by the accident off the coast of Kyrenia was transferred under the supervision of medical teams.

In his post, Minister Memişoğlu stated that the patient's condition is being closely monitored and extended his condolences for those who lost their lives in the accident.

Ship Accident off Kyrenia

The high-speed passenger ship named Filo Jet, operating between Kyrenia Port and Mersin's Taşucu Port, had started taking on water shortly after departing from Kyrenia.

It was reported that 241 people were rescued as part of rescue efforts on the ship, which capsized while trying to return to port, the bodies of 8 people were reached, and search efforts are ongoing.
