The 12-millimeter opening detected in the heart of 37-year-old mother of four Hürriyet Asan, who applied to Konya Beyhekim Training and Research Hospital with complaints of palpitations and shortness of breath, was successfully closed with a minimally invasive angiography operation performed through the groin without opening the rib cage.
Complaints and Diagnosis Process
Hürriyet Asan, 37, who experienced complaints of palpitations, shortness of breath, and fatigue upon exertion, was referred to Konya Beyhekim Training and Research Hospital for advanced examination.
The Transesophageal Echocardiography examination applied to the patient determined that there was a 12-millimeter opening in the wall separating the two atria of the heart.

Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azmi Eyiol stated that such openings lead to shortness of breath and palpitations in later ages by increasing blood flow from left to right.
Instead of opening the rib cage to close the opening, a double-disc umbrella closure method was preferred by entering through the vein in the right groin area.

Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Ziyrek stated that this procedure performed through the groin in suitable patients significantly reduces the hospital stay and the risk of infection.
Controls performed after the procedure confirmed that there was no leakage in the area inside the heart.

Following the successful operation, the burning sensation in the patient's chest and the difficulties she experienced when climbing stairs disappeared.
