Health Project Results for People with Disabilities Evaluated in Can Tho
The UNFPA-supported and Ministry of Health-partnered project significantly increased access to reproductive and sexual health services for people with disabilities.
The Can Tho City CDC and the Ministry of Health held a workshop summarizing the results of the UNFPA-supported reproductive and sexual health project for people with disabilities, sharing the successes of the 18-month pilot implementation.
Project Purpose and Scope
The Can Tho City Center for Disease Control and the VNM10P03 Project Management Board came together to address services for people with disabilities. The program formed part of an inclusive health development project funded by UNFPA.
Pilot Implementation and Activities
The intervention model was launched as a pilot implementation in Co Do and Dong Hiep communes. While the quality of primary health care services was enhanced, local personnel were trained, and barriers to information access were removed.
Achieved Successes and Rates
During the implementation process, 25 health workers and 82 officials were trained, and 345 people with disabilities received health services. The utilization rate of these services among people with disabilities rose from zero percent to 65.1 percent.
Future Plans and Field Visits
Ministry of Health officials recommended maintaining the sustainability of the model. Following the workshop, the delegation visited the Can Tho City Association of Persons with Disabilities and the homes of individuals with disabilities in the communes.
