Health system collapsed in Gaza: Millions of people unable to access treatment

Due to the deepening health crisis in Gaza, millions of Palestinians staying in tent camps are unable to access clean water, hygiene, medicine, and regular health services, while the vast majority of hospitals and clinics in the region have become inoperable.

Life in tent camps and diseases

In the tent camps where displaced Palestinians live in Gaza, extreme heat, contaminated water, and overcrowded conditions are accelerating the spread of infectious diseases.

High blood pressure, diabetes, hepatitis, scabies, and respiratory infections are frequently encountered in the camp established in the ruins of a destroyed school in the Nasr neighborhood.

The cost of reaching a hospital

Due to transportation fees, long distances, and destroyed roads, many patients are forced to postpone their treatment.

For families struggling to secure daily food, the expenses required for a medical examination or obtaining medication make treatment inaccessible.

Health facilities unable to operate

Only six of the 22 health clinics operated by UNRWA before the war are currently functioning, and 19 out of 34 hospitals are partially operational.

Hospitals that are partially active are unable to provide services in many departments due to the destruction caused by attacks, lack of equipment, and loss of personnel.

Inadequate bed capacity and impossibilities

There are only 2,200 hospital beds left to serve approximately 2 million people throughout the entire Gaza Strip.

Due to the unavailability of medicines and medical devices, laboratory tests and surgeries cannot be performed, and preventable diseases can become fatal.
