Ministry of Health Expands Drug Scope for Primary Healthcare Facilities
In response to requests from Vinh Long voters, payment limits for 349 health insurance drugs at primary healthcare facilities are being expanded.
The Ministry of Health is preparing to expand the scope of 349 health insurance drugs, including new-generation cancer medications, at primary healthcare facilities.
Demands of Vinh Long Voters
The Ministry of Health took action following feedback from voters in Vinh Long province. Voters had stated that the quantity of drugs provided at commune health centers was insufficient and did not meet treatment needs.
Expansion of the Drug List
In line with the voters' requests, it is planned to add drug types that previously required visits to higher-level hospitals, such as chemical drugs and cancer treatment medications, under health insurance coverage to primary healthcare facilities.
New Regulation in the Payment System
Health insurance payments are no longer carried out based on the hospital ranking, but rather based on the scope of professional activities, the approved list of technical services, and diagnosis and treatment guidelines.
New Circular and Scope
The Ministry of Health enacted Circular No. 37/2024/TT-BYT, which sets the principles and payment guidelines for drugs covered by health insurance. With the revised list prepared under this framework, the reimbursement scope for 349 drugs at the primary level is being expanded.
