It was reported that data standardization and a secure connection infrastructure must be provided for electronic medical records to effectively contribute to the digital transformation in healthcare services.
Spread of Electronic Medical Records
Paper-based medical records are gradually being replaced by electronic systems. Through this transition, patients reduce paperwork and simplify their examination processes, while doctors can access more detailed information about the treatment process.
The implementation of electronic medical records in healthcare institutions across the country is steadily increasing, transforming the way healthcare services are delivered.
Ministry of Health Data and Targets
According to statistics shared by the Ministry of Health, as of September 19, 2026, 1,268 out of a total of 1,650 healthcare institutions have implemented the electronic health records system.
This figure indicates a significant increase compared to the 1,192 institutions at the beginning of 2026, and the Ministry aims for the system to be completed by December 31, 2026 at the latest.
Contributions to the National Database
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Quy Tuong, Chairman of the Vietnam Medical Informatics Association, stated that the successful implementation of electronic medical records provides a rich data source for the national database.
Strengthening the technical infrastructure and establishing standards are of great importance for the effective utilization of these records.
