New Regulation Initiative Launched for Declining Fertility Rate in Türkiye

At the fifth congress held in Cyprus by the IVF and Infertility Association, attention was drawn to the declining fertility rate in the world and in Türkiye, and it was announced that revision works for a new IVF regulation will be carried out with the Ministry of Health.

Decline in Fertility Rate

At the fifth congress of the IVF and Infertility Association held in Cyprus, attention was drawn to the situation experienced due to the decline in the fertility rate in the world and in Türkiye.

Congress President Prof. Dr. Bülent Tıraş stated that the fertility rate in Türkiye, which was 2.38 in 2001, dropped to the level of 1.48 in 2024.

It was also stated that the average maternal age at first birth rose to 29.7.

Regulation Revision

Stating that a meeting has been held with the Ministry of Health, Prof. Dr. Bülent Tıraş announced that studies will be initiated to revise the 2006 IVF regulation.

Proposals are being submitted to lower the age range of 23 to 40 in the current regulation to 20 to 45 years, or even down to 18 years of age.

Technological Developments

Within the scope of the congress, the latest technological innovations used in IVF treatment were also discussed.

Modern methods such as artificial intelligence-supported embryo monitoring systems, hour-by-hour tracking of embryo development, and genetic analysis from embryo fluid were addressed.
