During a nationwide health screening program, a 70-year-old woman who visited the hospital was diagnosed with a rare eye condition known as a Christmas tree cataract.

Discovered During Health Screening

As part of a nationwide health check program launched by Ho Chi Minh City, ophthalmologists at Branch 2 of Gia Dinh People's Hospital detected a rare cataract case.

What Were the Patient's Symptoms

Ms. P.T.O., a 70-year-old resident of Ben Thanh Ward, stated that she recently experienced occasional blurred vision while reading and that her eyes were easily dazzled by bright light.

A Rare Type of Cataract

During a detailed examination in the ophthalmology department, shimmering colored cloudy spots were noticed in the lens of the patient's left eye, and the condition was identified as a Christmas tree cataract.

Experts' Decision to Monitor

Since Ms. P.T.O.'s visual acuity is currently good and does not affect her daily activities, the doctor did not recommend any therapeutic intervention; instead, regular monitoring and follow-up appointments were advised.
