During an informational meeting held at the Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, the diagnostic and treatment processes of pulmonary hypertension were discussed, and it was stated that failure to diagnose the disease early can lead to serious heart conditions.

Purpose of the Meeting

A comprehensive informational meeting regarding pulmonary hypertension was held at the Dean's Office of Trakya University Faculty of Medicine. During the meeting, the diagnostic and treatment processes of the disease, along with the health services provided at the Trakya University Hospital Pulmonary Hypertension Outpatient Clinic, were explained in detail.

Vital Importance of Early Diagnosis

Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Sedat Üstündağ pointed out that pulmonary hypertension that is not diagnosed early can lead to serious heart diseases. Üstündağ emphasized the importance for individuals experiencing symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and palpitations to consult a specialist physician.

Cause of the Disease

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağlar Kaya, a faculty member in the Department of Cardiology at Trakya University, stated that pulmonary hypertension occurs with an increase in pressure in the vessels carrying blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs. Kaya noted that this condition can be associated with many different health conditions.

Symptoms to Watch Out For

Experts stated that complaints such as unexplained shortness of breath, easy fatigue, fainting, and chest pain must be taken into consideration. Individuals exhibiting these symptoms are advised to apply to healthcare institutions and undergo necessary check-ups.

Risk Groups and Diagnostic Methods

Those with a family history of pulmonary hypertension, those with congenital heart disease, and patients with rheumatic connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma are in the risk group. At the outpatient clinic, patients undergo detailed examinations using echocardiography, rhythm monitoring, and advanced imaging methods.
