Yemen Issues Warning Over Health Crisis Caused by Siege in Taiz
The Yemeni government reported that the shortage of medicine, medical supplies, and fuel in the province of Taiz, which is under Houthi siege, could lead to a major humanitarian crisis.
The Yemeni government warned that a serious health and humanitarian crisis could occur in the province of Taiz, which is besieged by Iran-backed Houthis who are blocking the entry of basic necessities.
Critical Situation in Health Facilities
A statement by the Yemeni Ministry of Health emphasized that medicines, medical supplies, and fuel are about to run out in the southwestern city of Taiz, which is under Houthi siege.
Danger of Services Coming to a Halt
It was stated that if the situation continues, vital medical services such as emergency rooms, operating theaters, dialysis, and neonatal units could completely come to a halt.
Life-Threatening Risks and Preventable Deaths
The exhaustion of fuel puts electrical generators and ambulances out of service, while also negatively affecting cold storage facilities where vaccines are kept, paving the way for preventable deaths.
Urgent Call to International Organizations
The Yemeni Ministry of Health called on international humanitarian organizations, primarily the United Nations, to take action for the facilities in Taiz.
