Sudden Death After the Procedure

A forensic expert from London attributed the death of 43-year-old Igho Ubiribo in the Thai capital in March to a hyaluronic acid injection administered hours before the procedure.

Medical Tourism Debates

The incident has reignited debates regarding medical tourism safety in Thailand, which remains an attractive destination for patients traveling from abroad, including for cosmetic procedures.

Investigation by the Ministry of Public Health

While the Thai Ministry of Public Health ordered an investigation following the death, authorities inspected the clinic in central Bangkok where Ubiribo received treatment.

Events at the Hospital

According to the British forensic report, Ubiribo complained of chest pain and suddenly collapsed while receiving a massage following the filler injection.

Clinic Statements

According to information shared by the Ministry of Public Health, clinic managers stated that Ubiribo had been a regular patient since 2024 and had previously received similar injections four times.

Growing Cosmetic Sector

As the cosmetic sector grows rapidly in the country, official data shows that as of 2024, there are 7,000 aesthetic clinics nationwide, including 2,000 in Bangkok.
