15 Age Limit and New Regulations on Social Media

The new social media regulation prepared by the Presidency of Cyber Security has been published in the Official Gazette, formalizing its implementation process.

New Regulation Published in the Official Gazette

The Regulation on the Provision of Dedicated Segregated Services to Children by Social Network Providers and Age Verification, prepared by the Presidency of Cyber Security, has been published in the Official Gazette.

With this newly enacted regulation, the implementation of comprehensive measures for the protection of children on social media platforms has been decided.

15 Age Limit and Age Verification

According to the new rules introduced, social media platforms will not be able to offer any services to children who have not reached the age of 15.

User age verification will be carried out through a document generated via the e-Government Gateway or through privacy-preserving systems.

Restrictions on Children's Accounts

Social media accounts of children who have reached the age of 15 will be set to private by default, and they will be banned from broadcasting live streams.

Personalized advertisements will not be shown to these accounts, children will only be able to receive messages from people they follow, and their list visibility will be restricted.

Parental Control and Other Measures

Social media platforms have been mandated to provide parental control tools to users in order to enhance children's safety.

Additionally, the practice of presenting digital content aimed at children through the infinite scrolling method will be completely terminated.

Effective Date and Transition Period

The newly prepared regulation will officially enter into force on November 1, 2026, and all platforms will comply with it.

The deadline granted for completing age verification procedures for existing accounts has been set as March 31, 2027.
