Access Blocked to 246 Social Media Accounts Causing Investor Panic
Judicial authorities have issued an access block decision due to speculative social media posts targeting investors in Borsa İstanbul and capital markets.
In line with the investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, access blocks were imposed on 246 social media accounts that made posts about capital market instruments which could cause panic among investors.
Initiation of the Investigation
It was officially announced that an investigation ex officio was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Bureau of Investigation for Cybercrimes. Within this scope, posts on digital media outlets were meticulously examined.
Access Block Decision
A total of 246 accounts and links determined to have engaged in speculation about capital market instruments on social media platforms were identified. The Istanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace ordered the blocking of access to these accounts.
Transmission of the Decision
Official correspondence was carried out to ensure that the access block decision issued by the court is fully implemented. The relevant decision was sent to the Presidency of Cybersecurity as the authorized unit.
Liquidation and Background
The process gained momentum after the Capital Markets Board decided to suspend the trading of and liquidate Hedef Portföy and 130 investment funds belonging to this company, drawing attention to market volatility.
Interagency Coordination
It was reported that the ongoing investigation was carried out in cooperation and coordination with the Capital Markets Board and the Cyber Crimes Department of the General Directorate of Security.
Continuation of the Judicial Process
It was stated that the legal and judicial proceedings initiated against the account administrators determined to have engaged in activities disrupting market order and security are continuing at full speed.
