Access restriction imposed on social media accounts of numerous institutions and journalists
Social media accounts of institutions and journalists have been shut down within the framework of judicial decisions and operations coordinated by the prosecutor's office.
By decision of the Bakırköy 4th Criminal Judgeship of Peace, access restrictions were imposed on the social media accounts of numerous institutions, journalists, and the LGBTIQ+ community, including Evrensel Newspaper, Amnesty International Turkey, Academics for Peace, and MLSA, as well as the website of Kaos GL.
Accounts Subject to Access Restriction
In accordance with the decision of the Bakırköy 4th Criminal Judgeship of Peace dated September 13, 2026, and numbered 2026/9112, it was reported that access restrictions were imposed on 73 social media accounts.
Affected Institutions and Names
According to information shared by the Freedom of Expression Association, the shut-down accounts include Evrensel Newspaper, Amnesty Turkey, Academics for Peace, the Media and Law Studies Association, and many non-governmental organizations.
It was also noted that the list includes social media accounts belonging to journalists and various foundations.
Family is Safe Operations
Legal proceedings were initiated within the scope of "Family is Safe" operations carried out under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Aydın, and Mersin.
As a result of these ongoing investigations, it was reported that legal actions were applied against numerous individuals, associations, and businesses.
Subjects of Examination by Judicial Authorities
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that allegations such as pimping, production of obscene content, and exposing children to such content are being examined in the investigations.
Searches in Associations and Detentions
Within the framework of the operation, searches were carried out at the Kaos GL, LİSTAG, SPoD, Lambdaistanbul, HEVİ LGBTI+, Positive Living, and Positive Trace associations.
Nearly 50 people, including board members, presidents, and journalists, were detained or had proceedings initiated against them.
Court and Arrest Decisions
Out of 18 people detained in Izmir, 16 were arrested by the court they were brought before and sent to prison.
