Access restrictions imposed on numerous social media accounts across Turkey
Within the framework of operations targeting LGBTI+ organizations and activists, access blocks were imposed on the social media accounts of journalists and civil society organizations.
According to information shared by the Freedom of Expression Association (İFÖD), decisions to block access were implemented for numerous social media accounts, including those of journalists, institutions, and organizations, as part of operations targeting LGBTI+ organizations and activists across Turkey.
Accounts Subject to Access Restrictions
Based on information provided by the Freedom of Expression Association, numerous social media accounts—including those of journalists İrfan Değirmenci and Şirin Payzın—have been blocked from access. These accounts have not yet been made completely invisible from Turkey by the X platform.
Operations and Previous Blocks
Following the wave of access blocks targeting LGBTI+ associations, organizations, and activists that began on September 12, the X accounts of numerous university student societies were also closed to access prior to the operations organized under the heading "My Family is Safe" on September 13.
Civil Society and Press Organizations
On September 14, numerous X and Instagram accounts were blocked from access, including Evrensel Newspaper, Amnesty International Turkey, Academics for Peace, the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA), and the Ali İsmail Korkmaz Foundation.
Newly Blocked Individuals and Institutions
In line with the latest decisions, other individuals and institutions subjected to blocking orders include soL Haber, the Women's Coalition, the Federation of Women's Associations of Turkey, Özgün Emre Koç, Yiğit Karaahmet, the Socialist Laborers' Party, and Fırat Fıstık, among many others.
