Internet Censorship and Access Block Wave Widens in September
As a result of operations and investigations carried out between September 12 and 20, hundreds of websites and social media accounts were blocked.
According to the internet censorship tracking covering September 12-20, 2026, hundreds of websites, social media accounts, and pieces of content were blocked within the framework of operations and capital market investigations, while numerous journalists and rights defenders were detained.
Scope of the Access Block Wave
Between September 12 and 16, access block decisions were implemented against at least 319 websites, social media accounts, and pieces of content.
Court Decisions and Targeted Organizations
In line with decisions issued by courts in Istanbul and Mersin, the accounts of civil society organizations, rights organizations, and press institutions were targeted.
Access restrictions were imposed on the social media accounts of many structures such as Kaos GL, CETAD, SPoD, Evrensel, Amnesty International Turkey, and MLSA.
Capital Market and Speculation Grounds
Citing speculative posts regarding capital market instruments, at least 357 additional accounts and links were blocked on September 17 and 19.
Joint Statement by Rights Organizations
MLSA and various rights organizations issued a joint press statement on September 18, demanding the immediate release of the imprisoned journalists.
The statement announced that since September 12, at least 116 people had been detained, and a large number of individuals, including rights defenders, had been arrested.
