An investigation was launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against actress Berna Laçin, who reacted to Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay joining the AKP, due to her social media post, and she was detained after a search of her home.
Social Media Post and Investigation Process
Reacting to Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay joining the AKP, Berna Laçin shared the words, "Izmir was occupied before too, Do not fear!" on her social media account.
Following this post, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a formal investigation against Berna Laçin on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility or degrading them."
Detention and Search Operation
Making another post after the investigation, Laçin stated that an investigation was launched just one hour after her post and reacted to the situation on social media.
In a later statement, Laçin reported that law enforcement officers came to her home, conducted a search, and detained her, adding that she had not yet fully grasped what was happening.
Cemil Tugay Joining the Party
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay, who had previously denied claims that he would switch to the AKP, officially joined the ruling party during the process.
Cemil Tugay's party badge was pinned by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at a ceremony held.
