A lawsuit has been filed against All Academics Association General Secretary Suay Karaman on charges of insulting the President, citing social media posts he made years ago, and the date for the first hearing has been set.

Years-Old Post Becomes Subject of Lawsuit

Legal proceedings have been initiated against All Academics Association General Secretary and Contemporary Democracy Foundation President Suay Karaman due to a social media post he made 11 years ago and repeated 6 years ago.

Within the scope of this filed lawsuit, the statements made by academic and writer Suay Karaman in his past social media posts were cited as the subject of the accusation.

Content of the Post and Allegations

The post that led to the trial featured an image containing a photograph of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan along with critical comments added by Karaman.

In the dossier prepared by the prosecutor's office, it was claimed that these expressions constituted an attack on the honor, dignity, and prestige of the President and damaged his reputation.

Legal Demand and First Hearing Date

In line with the accusations, a penalty was requested against Suay Karaman in accordance with the relevant articles of the Turkish Penal Code.

It was announced that the first hearing of the case will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 13:45 at the Ankara Courthouse 90th Criminal Court of First Instance.
