Regulation on Social Media Use for Children Under 16 in Kazakhstan
The government of Kazakhstan is taking new legal steps to restrict access to social media networks and account usage for individuals under the age of 16.
The government of Kazakhstan has prepared legislative amendments to regulate the use of social media by children under the age of 16.
Details of the Bill
The government of Kazakhstan has prepared and submitted legal regulations to the Parliament regarding the registration of users under the age of 16 on online platforms.
The amendments envisaged to be made in the existing Law on Online Platforms and Online Advertising are currently being reviewed by the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
Suspension of Accounts
In a statement published on the parliament's website, Prime Minister Bektenov stated that a transition period will be granted to ensure compliance with the new requirements.
During this process, the issue of temporarily suspending existing accounts of online platform users under the age of 16 is also being evaluated.
Age Verification Rules
Following the adoption of the legislative amendments, special rules will be implemented to verify the age of platform users.
In the implementation of the introduced rules, the platforms' existing mechanisms, artificial intelligence-based identification methods, and user activities will be taken into account.
Meetings with Industry Representatives
Prime Minister Bektenov stated that the prepared regulatory legal provisions will also be discussed separately with representatives of online platforms in the country.
