Social Media and Disinformation Bureaus Established in Courthouses
The Ministry of Justice has announced that special bureaus will be established within chief public prosecutor's offices across the country to effectively combat criminal content and disinformation on social media.
According to a statement made by Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, special bureaus are being launched in courthouses to monitor social media and combat disinformation. Within the scope of the practice, an official letter was sent to the chief public prosecutor's offices of 175 heavy penal centers.
Purpose of Establishment and Scope of the Bureaus
The newly established bureaus will combat digital content that directs children and young people toward crime, violence, and abuse.
Additionally, posts targeting citizens' private lives, personal rights, and life and property security will be monitored by these units.
Rapid Intervention and Judicial Proceedings
With this new practice, it is aimed to carry out the identification of suspects and the process of intervention against relevant illegal content much more rapidly.
