Social Media Operation in Three Provinces Based in Çorum: Nine Detained

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Çorum Provincial Gendarmerie Command, simultaneous operations were organized in three provinces targeting suspects determined to have interacted with extremist content on social media platforms and organized themselves.

Details of the Operation

As a result of the work carried out by the Çorum Provincial Gendarmerie Command Counter-Terrorism Branch Directorate teams, it was determined that certain suspects were organizing in the virtual environment.

In line with the obtained information, it was ascertained that the suspects, among whom were individuals under the age of 18, came together around various ideologies via social media.

Scope of the Content

It was determined that the suspects made posts on social media platforms regarding action scenarios and various tactics.

It was identified that the accounts in question included educational content such as bomb-making, preparing Molotov cocktails, the use of long-barreled weapons, and psychological warfare tactics.

Simultaneous Raids

Within the framework of the investigation conducted under the coordination of the Çorum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, work was initiated targeting a total of 11 suspects.

In simultaneous operations organized at designated addresses in Istanbul and Sakarya, primarily based in Çorum, nine suspects were caught and detained.

Judicial Process and Evidence

Computers and mobile phones found at the addresses where the operations were carried out were seized by security forces for examination.

Following the completion of their legal procedures at the gendarmerie, the detained suspects were referred to the courthouse.
