Turkish Grand National Assembly opens on October 1: Prominent regulations in the new legislative year
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is starting its new legislative year on October 1 after a 50-day break. Many critical topics, from fund discussions to social media identity verification, will be addressed in the new term.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is officially stepping into its new working period by gathering on October 1 for the 5th Legislative Year of the 28th Term, following its recess that began on August 10.
Opening of the New Legislative Year
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is completing its 50-day recess period it entered after the adoption of the framework law on August 10. The General Assembly will convene with a special session on Thursday, October 1, and start the new term.
Fund Discussions and Kızılay Proposal
Among the first agenda items of the General Assembly are discussions regarding fund exploitation and parliamentary research motions. The first bill to be debated will be the Turkish Red Crescent Law Proposal.
Digital Accommodation Regulations
A requirement to obtain a permit from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is being introduced for digital accommodation platforms such as Airbnb, TravelGo, and Booking. With this regulation, it is planned to reopen access to Booking under Ministry supervision.
Expansion of the Smoking Ban
With a new study prepared by the Ministry of Health and the AK Party Group, it is aimed to restrict the use of smoking in public areas. Bans will be expanded in hospital and school courtyards as well as playgrounds.
13th Judicial Package and Social Media
The 13th Judicial Package prepared by the Ministry of Justice and the AK Party Group will come to the Parliament's agenda in October. The package envisions alimony regulations and the obligation for social media platforms to verify identities via e-Government.
