The research and inspection vessel Optimus Prime, used for deep-water research, capable of maintaining its position precisely in the open sea, and equipped with remotely operated underwater vehicles, has reached the shipwreck site.
Inspection Visit by Officials
TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu boarded the Optimus Prime vessel at the shipwreck area to inspect the ongoing search activities firsthand and receive information from authorities.
Search Operations Continue Uninterrupted
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced to the public that search operations for the missing persons from the passenger ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia are continuing uninterrupted on a 24-hour basis.
High Technical Equipment Capacity
It was emphasized that the vessel included in the operations possesses extremely advanced technical equipment and high capacity, ranking among only a few such ships in the world.
Deep Points of the Wreck Being Inspected
It was noted that thanks to this special vessel, it will be possible to access previously unreachable points of the wreck and examine its interior sections in detail.
Sinking Process of the Passenger Ship
The high-speed passenger ship named Filo Jet, operating voyages between Kyrenia Port and Taşucu Port in Mersin, had taken on water and sunk shortly after its departure on Sunday, August 30.
Rescued Passengers and Missing Persons Search
Of the 267 passengers and crew members on board, 239 were rescued alive, and search operations for the missing persons on the ship, whose wreck is located at a depth of 554 meters, are still ongoing.
