The Turkey Women's National Volleyball Team has returned home after winning the gold medal by defeating hosts Italy at the 2026 Mediterranean Games held in Taranto, Italy.
They defeated Italy in the final
The Turkey Women's National Volleyball Team faced host Italy in the final of the 2026 Mediterranean Games.
Winning the match 3-0 with set scores of 25-22, 26-24, and 25-18, the national team completed the tournament as undefeated champions.
Welcome at Istanbul Airport
Returning to Turkey with the gold medal, the national team delegation was welcomed with flowers and an enthusiastic ceremony at Istanbul Airport.
Historic success after 21 years
Head coach Gökhan Durmaz stated that they won the gold medal after a 21-year hiatus by defeating Italy away on August 30.
Durmaz also pointed out that his team had the youngest average age in the tournament.
We are proud to keep our promise
Team captain Arelya Karasoy Koçaş stated that they were happy to keep the promise of a gold medal they gave to the federation president.
Koçaş also expressed that they were motivated before the match by Atatürk's words, "Your first target is the Mediterranean."
