In a gym in Istanbul's Sancaktepe district, national coach Funda Bakış was stabbed to death in a fight that reportedly broke out over a debt issue. Three suspects were detained in the investigation launched following the incident.

Murder at the gym

A fight broke out over a debt dispute at a gym located in Abdurrahmangazi Neighborhood in Sancaktepe, Istanbul. An argument arose between 39-year-old national coach Funda Bakış and 21-year-old Z.G., who reportedly used to work at the same gym.

Stabbed in the chest

As the argument escalated, Z.G. stabbed Funda Bakış in the chest. Upon reports from bystanders, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene in a short time. Medical teams intervened in the heavily injured Bakış.

Could not be saved at the hospital

Despite all interventions by medical teams, the heavily injured national coach could not be saved and lost her life. Following the incident, police teams launched a comprehensive investigation.

Debt disagreement

In the police investigation, it was determined that suspect Z.G. had taken out a loan and given money to Bakış while working at Bakış's gym, and that there was a debt dispute between the two for this reason.

Suspects caught

Following the incident, suspect Z.G. was caught and detained by police teams. Within the scope of the investigation, 21-year-old A.H.U. and E.Ş., who were determined to have been involved in the incident, were also detained.

Criminal records

It was learned that among the detained suspects, Z.G. has a criminal record for insult, while A.H.U. has a record for intentional injury. The multi-faceted investigation regarding the incident is ongoing.
