Following its controversial brand transformation two years ago, luxury carmaker Jaguar has introduced the Type 01EV, a four-door luxury GT and its first new model, at a launch event in New York. The new electric vehicle represents a radical departure from the brand's past classic British elegance.

Radical Design and New Platform

Its ultra-modern, brutalist, and sharp-lined design marks a radical break from the brand's traditional British elegance of the past. This radical design represents an attempt by Jaguar management to shed its deeply rooted heritage that once appealed to racing enthusiasts.

The company emphasizes that it has returned to its original slogan, 'Copy Nothing', in order to create a unique vehicle. The model holds the distinction of being the first mass-production vehicle built on the dedicated platform named the new Jaguar Electric Architecture.

Dimensions and Physical Characteristics

The car has a massive structure measuring 5.2 meters in length and 2 meters in width. With these dimensions, it is longer than most SUVs, making it quite a challenging option for narrow European roads and parking lots.

Despite its size, the Type 01EV sits very low to the ground at a height of only 1.4 meters, presenting a fluid silhouette. The vehicle also stands out with a heavy mass of 2,700 kilograms.

Power and Range Values

Thanks to its three motors, the Type 01EV produces 1,030 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The model also offers an impressively high range of 720 kilometers.

The battery supports charging up to 350 kW, making it possible to add 321 kilometers of range in just 13 minutes, and go from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes.

Pricing and Schedule

Base models in Europe are projected to start at approximately 167,470 euros, with prices rising up to 185,470 euros with bespoke equipment options. Orders are planned to open in early 2027.

The first deliveries in Europe are targeted to begin in the second half of 2027. The design, engineering, and manufacturing phases are all carried out in the United Kingdom.

Rebranding Process

Prior to its 2024 rebranding, the company faced a severe identity and financial crisis triggered by a failed business strategy that failed to attract younger consumers. The new strategy targets a younger and wealthier demographic.

Although the company's colorful advertising campaign, which featured not a single automobile, was criticized in some circles, Jaguar management continues to defend this bold and disruptive approach.
