Karabük University Academician Involved in TÜBİTAK-Supported Sports Genetics Project
A Karabük University academician has taken part in a TÜBİTAK-supported research examining the genetic characteristics of Turkish elite athletes.
Karabük University Hasan Doğan Faculty of Sports Sciences Research Assistant Tuğba Çetin took part as a researcher in a special TÜBİTAK-supported project investigating the genetic characteristics of Turkish elite endurance and power athletes.
Scope and Purpose of the Project
The project, led by Ordu University faculty member Prof. Dr. Gökhan İpekoğlu, aims to reveal the genetic profiles of elite athletes.
A large sample group from different branches will be used in the study examining the genetic profile of the Turkish elite endurance and power athlete population.
Number of Participants and Groups
It is planned to include a total of 2,000 participants in the project within the scope of the research.
The study will include 550 elite endurance athletes, 650 elite power athletes, and 800 control individuals.
Investigated Genetic Variations
Within the framework of the research, AMPD1, HIF1A, NOS3, and NRF gene polymorphisms, which are directly associated with athletic performance, will be examined in detail.
Genotype and allele distributions will be analyzed by performing DNA isolation from blood samples to be taken from the participants.

Academicians from Ordu and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan universities are also taking part in the research team.
