Kurdish Melodies on the Streets of Germany

Moving beyond traditional association activities, the youth started organizing weekly running events through a sports initiative they named Rey Club.

Dozens of youth coming together in the parks and streets of Germany run for kilometers accompanied by Kurdish melodies playing in their headphones or through speakers.

Aims to Keep Cultural Ties Alive

The core philosophy of the club is to maintain physical fitness while keeping the connection to the homeland alive, existing as a multicultural richness within a foreign society instead of assimilation.

Becoming the focus of attention in a short time, the club transformed into a frequent meeting point for youth living in different cities of Germany who want to strengthen their social ties.

Emphasis That Identity is an Action

Speaking to the Diaspora program broadcast on Rûdaw TV, one of the club members conveyed the meaning carried by this movement they started.

The member stated that running shoulder to shoulder on the streets of Germany while listening to music in their own language gives them a great sense of belonging and an indescribable pride.
