Minister Bak: Development of sports and investments for youth continue nationwide
Speaking at a ceremony in Samsun, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak shared the latest updates on dormitory placements, scholarship opportunities, and sports infrastructure projects.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of the Samsun City Hospital, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak stated that a 93 percent placement rate has been achieved in dormitories, scholarship and loan support has been provided to millions of young people, and detailed major sports investments across Turkey.
Dormitory and Scholarship Opportunities
Reminding that they announced the dormitory placements last week as the Ministry of Youth and Sports and achieved a 93 percent placement rate, Minister Bak emphasized that no country in the world has a system with a capacity of one million beds.
Stating that one million beds are ready for young people starting university, Bak conveyed that free breakfast and dinner are provided in the dormitories, and also non-repayable scholarships are given to approximately 650,000 students.
Investments in Sports and Facilities
Noting that revolutions have been made in sports facilities and great investments have been brought to the country, Minister Bak reported that swimming has been taught to 12 million people in the last 8 years within the scope of the "Let Everyone Learn to Swim" project.
Stating that 700 pools, mostly semi-olympic, have been completed, Bak expressed that construction is ongoing for 150 pools and the project or tender stage continues for another 150 pools.
Achievements in the International Arena
Emphasizing that their duty as the ministry is to keep young people away from bad habits and digital addiction, Bak congratulated the athletes by reminding that the Sultans of the Net became European champions for the second time.
He stated that Turkey ranked second after the host Italy by winning a total of 111 medals, including 41 gold, 28 silver, and 42 bronze, at the Mediterranean Games in Italy.
Future Organizations and Goals
Inviting people to move and do sports against the danger of obesity, Minister Bak reminded that the European Games will be held in Istanbul in 2027 and the 2032 UEFA European Championship will be held in Turkey.
In addition, while reporting that 40 stadiums have been completed across the country, construction is ongoing for 4-5 of them, and an additional 20 stadiums will be built, he added that the Men's National Basketball Team has guaranteed participation in the 2027 World Cup.
