Significant Increase Recorded in Youth and Sports Investments in Izmir
AK Party Izmir Provincial Chairman Bilal Saygili shared data with the public regarding the growth in the number of facilities and licensed athletes in the city.
AK Party Izmir Provincial Chairman Bilal Saygili announced the details of the investments made in the field of youth and sports in Izmir since 2002. The statement emphasized that there have been massive increases in the number of sports halls, artificial turf pitches, pools, and licensed athletes.
Developments in the Number of Facilities
The number of sports halls across Izmir, which was 34 in 2002, has been increased to 71 as of 2026, including school sports halls.
While the number of artificial turf pitches, which did not exist in the past, reached 181, the number of swimming pools was raised from 4 to 15.
New Courts and Fields
The number of tennis courts in the city rose from 9 to 44, and the number of synthetic-surfaced football pitches, which was zero, was recorded as 38.
The number of youth centers increased from 2 to 22, while 11 new youth offices were put into service for the use of young people.
Branch Diversity and Licensed Athletes
While services were provided in 21 different branches in 2002, this number has been expanded to 62 today, creating a wide range of sports.
In the same period, the total number of licensed athletes, which was 9,925, reached 82,263 in 2026.
Swimming Training and Projects
Within the framework of the 'No One Who Cannot Swim' project, a total of 16,417 students and athletes received swimming training in 2026.
Thanks to 9 portable pools established across the city, sports facilities were brought directly to the youth.
School Sports Activities
Within the scope of school sports, 74,360 athlete cards were issued and 62,522 license procedures were completed in 2026.
A total of 58 million 650 thousand liras in resources was allocated for the 11,855 competitions and 596 organizations held.
Social and Cultural Contributions
Camp programs, history and culture trips, and summer clubs organized through youth centers were actively maintained.
Thanks to the social activities carried out, a significant contribution was made to the versatile development of the youth.
Target of Future Champions
Bilal Saygili stated that the main purpose of the investments is not only to provide spaces for the youth, but to raise the champions of the future.
It was stated that efforts will be continued with determination to carry Izmir to a much stronger position in the field of sports.
