Apple Announces iPhone Duo, the First Foldable Phone in Company History
Apple has unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. The device features an A20 Pro processor, a titanium hinge, and starts at $1,999 for pre-order.
Following months of leaks, Apple has officially announced the iPhone Duo, the first foldable smartphone in the company's history. Bringing the foldable form factor to the iOS ecosystem, the device stands out with its titanium hinge structure and A20 Pro processor.
Design and Display Architecture
The iPhone Duo comes with a titanium body and IP68 dust and water resistance certification on the durability side. It features a 5.4-inch outer cover display and a 7.6-inch foldable inner ProMotion panel.
The special nano-texture coating used on the device regulates light refraction on the surface, almost completely eliminating the visual prominence of the crease.
Hardware and Performance Features
Powered by Apple's A20 Pro chipset produced with a 2nm architecture, the device houses a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, and dual 16-core NPU units.
The device includes the company's proprietary C2 5G modem and the Apple N1 chip with Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7 support.
Camera and Imaging Technologies
The main camera features a 48 MP Fusion sensor integrated with an optical-quality 2x telephoto mode. The ultra-wide-angle sensor also supports macro photography.
For the first time in Apple's history, an under-display selfie camera is used on the foldable inner screen, while a 12 MP Center Stage camera is located on the outer cover screen.
Battery and Charging Capabilities
Apple promises video playback times of up to 44 hours on the outer display, 31 hours on the inner display, and up to 24 hours under mixed usage scenarios, depending on screen usage.
While wired charging reaches a 50 percent charge level in 20 minutes, fast charging is also provided through wireless charging technologies.
Pricing and Release Date
Available in Silver White and Midnight Black color options, pre-orders for the iPhone Duo will begin on October 16, and the device will hit shelves on October 23.
The 256 GB version of the model starts at $1,999, with prices going up to $3,199 depending on capacity, and Apple Pencil support will be introduced towards the end of the year.
