Apple is developing a new security system called AutoLock to prevent iPhone users from having their phones stolen via snatch-and-grab. This feature, which has not yet been officially announced, appeared in code references within the iOS 27.2 beta 2 version.
Multiple Signal Evaluation
Instead of relying on a single sensor datum, the system evaluates multiple indicators simultaneously that might suggest the iPhone has been taken from the user. Acceleration changes and connection states are analyzed during this process.
Apple Watch Integration
Situations such as a paired Apple Watch remaining inaccessible for a certain period, the disconnection between devices, and the loss of network connection are taken into account by the system.
Precautions Against False Alarms
The AutoLock system operates with a voting mechanism to prevent false signals. Successful Face ID verification or familiar locations can prevent the automatic locking process.
