Chinese AI Companies Refused to Meet with US Delegation
According to a statement by a US advisory commission, leading Chinese artificial intelligence companies did not meet with a US delegation due to concerns over potential sanctions.
During a visit to Beijing by members of the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, it was reported that Chinese AI companies rejected meeting requests out of fear of US sanctions.
Investment and Sanctions Concerns
A US congressional advisory body announced that leading Chinese artificial intelligence firms avoided meeting with its members during a visit to Beijing. It was stated that the firms made this decision out of fear of being exposed to US sanctions.
Commission Contacts
USCC Chairman Randy Schriver stated at a panel at Johns Hopkins University that Chinese firms view them as dangerous and hawkish. Schriver noted that they conveyed how meetings could help get them off sanctions lists, but the firms remained unconvinced.
Scope of the Visit
The commission described the trip as a fact-finding mission, stating that the information gathered will be used in the annual report to be presented to Congress. As part of its contacts, the delegation met with government officials, think tanks, and business people.
Alibaba and DeepSeek Meetings
During its visit to Hangzhou, the delegation wanted to meet with companies including Alibaba and DeepSeek, but these visits were not permitted. Commission members expressed that they found the situation contradictory.
Future Dialogue Process
Despite all the difficulties experienced, Schriver emphasized that maintaining dialogue between Washington and Beijing, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, is valuable. Officials stated that they hold cautious optimism regarding upcoming bilateral talks.
