Chinese AI Startup Manus Seeks New Funding with Independent Operations
After a merger agreement with Meta was blocked, Manus returned to independent operations and is in talks to raise $500 million at a $4 billion valuation.
Following the blocking of its planned merger process with Meta, Chinese artificial intelligence startup Manus has returned to independent operations and is holding discussions to secure $500 million in funding at a $4 billion valuation.
Funding Talks and Backers
Artificial intelligence startup Manus is holding talks for a new financing round of $500 million as part of its independently maintained operations. Potential investors in this round include IDG Capital, Boyu Capital, and battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology.
Existing backers include Tencent, HSG, and Zhenfund. It is also stated that the company is evaluating a structuring process in preparation for a potential initial public offering in Hong Kong.
Meta Merger and Blocked Process
Drawing significant attention following the demo of its AI tool last year, Manus relocated its personnel to Singapore in mid-2025. In December of the same year, a $2 billion acquisition agreement with Meta was announced.
However, concerns grew in China over the loss of artificial intelligence capabilities to the West, and the Beijing administration blocked the deal citing export controls and foreign investment rules.
Return to Independent Operations and Data Process
During the separation from Meta, early-stage investors and backers helped buy back the company's shares at a valuation of approximately $2 billion. As part of the separation, it was reported that users needed to back up their data.
The company announced that data generated after the acquisition was deleted to comply with regulatory requirements in certain jurisdictions, and that it returned to independent operations under the leadership of the founding team as of this month.
Product Lineup and Market Position
Manus develops AI products and agents similar to solutions offered by companies such as OpenAI, Lovable, and Replit. It offers tools that allow users to create applications, websites, designs, and presentations.
While providing various features such as video generation and a browser assistant, the company has not yet responded to inquiries regarding its recent fundraising efforts and operational developments.
