Following the outbreak of violence at a far-right demonstration against immigration and asylum policies in The Hague, Netherlands, riot police intervened and banned the march.

Violence Erupts in The Hague

Hundreds of demonstrators were dispersed by riot police after violence broke out at a far-right protest against immigration and asylum policies in the Dutch city of The Hague.

Following clashes among demonstrators gathered at the Malieveld park in the city center, the municipality of The Hague banned the planned march and ordered the crowd to disperse.

Attacks on Police and Arrests

After some activists hurled fireworks and various objects at police, security forces detained multiple individuals during the unrest.

Authorities reported that, in addition to attacking police, protesters gave Nazi salutes and chanted antisemitic slogans.

Strong Reaction from the Minister of Justice

Minister of Justice David van Weel called for a very resolute response to the ugly scenes during the protest in a statement on the social media platform X.

Minister Van Weel expressed his gratitude to all police officers who defend the democratic constitutional state.

Similar Incidents in Past Years

The unrest on Saturday occurred a year after riots broke out surrounding a right-wing demonstration.

In previous incidents, clashes between black-clad protesters and police resulted in a police car being set on fire and the headquarters of a central political party being attacked.
