Within the scope of the Vietnam Maritime Forum 2026, held recently in Hanoi, the country's vision of becoming a strong maritime nation was discussed, and the steps that need to be taken were evaluated.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Trung Tinh emphasized that in order to derive prosperity from the sea and ensure sustainable development, it is necessary to be strong in the fields of knowledge and technology.
Strategic Gateway and Power of Innovation
National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Doan Anh stated that the sea is not only sovereignty and a living space, but also a strategic gateway connecting the country to the region and the world.
It was noted that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are among the most important driving forces for the country to make a breakthrough in maritime development.
The Ministry's International Cooperation Plan
The Ministry of Science and Technology proposed four key areas of international cooperation for the 2026-2030 period, including targets to increase research capacity and master technology.
Within the scope of this plan, strategic steps are planned to be taken to establish data connectivity and develop qualified human resources in the field of marine sciences.
Priority Technological Areas
Among the identified priorities are autonomous underwater vehicles, ocean remote sensing systems, high-speed submarine cables, and marine data centers.
It was also stated that priority will be given to developing studies in the fields of offshore renewable energy projects and marine biotechnology.
Data as National Strategic Infrastructure
It was conveyed at the meeting that marine data should be treated as a national strategic infrastructure and that the effectiveness of the research to be conducted will be evaluated through tangible technologies and products.
