While the financial services confidence index in Turkey increased in September, international reports revealed that total global debt has reached a record level.

According to data announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the Financial Services Confidence Index increased by 8 points in September to reach 158.4. In the same period, a report by the Institute of International Finance announced that global debt had risen to $365.5 trillion.

Increase in the Financial Services Confidence Index

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey shared the results of the Financial Services Confidence Index for the September 2026 period with the public. Accordingly, the index recorded an increase of 8 points compared to the previous month, rising to 158.4.

Key Drivers of the Index Increase

When examining the diffusion indices of the survey questions that make up the index, it was observed that business conditions over the last three months, service demand over the last three months, and expectations for service demand over the next three months had a positive impact on the index.

Demand and Employment Expectations

The balance value for business conditions over the past three months rose from 31.5 to 41.7, and service demand increased from 42.9 to 54.9. Meanwhile, employment expectations for the upcoming period declined from 20.8 to 14.5.

Global Debt Monitor Report

According to the Global Debt Monitor report published by the Institute of International Finance, total global debt rose to $365.5 trillion in the first half of 2026.

Sectoral Distribution of Global Debt

As of the second quarter of 2026, the distribution of global debt stood at $65.7 trillion for households, $105.1 trillion for non-financial corporations, $110.5 trillion for governments, and $84.3 trillion for the financial sector.

Debt and Costs in Markets

Total debt in emerging markets reached $110.6 trillion, with China leading this increase, while total debt in developed markets reached $250 trillion.
