Gates Foundation Pledges $1 Billion to Ensure Equity in Artificial Intelligence

The Gates Foundation has committed to spending at least $1 billion over the next two years to ensure artificial intelligence is more equitable and to expand access for disadvantaged communities.

Funding for Artificial Intelligence Equity

The Gates Foundation announced that it will allocate a budget of at least $1 billion over the next two years to reach individuals who have previously been unable to benefit from artificial intelligence technology and to ensure fairness.

Goalkeepers Report Published

This significant financial commitment coincided with the release of the foundation's 10th annual Goalkeepers Report, titled "Mind the Gap: AI, Equity, and the Choices We Can't Avoid."

The report emphasized that the path followed by artificial intelligence is not fixed, while warning that very little time remains to influence who will benefit.

Allocation Areas of the Budget

The committed funds were distributed across four main priority areas. Within this scope, 40 percent of the budget was allocated to education, 40 percent to healthcare services, 10 percent to agriculture, and the remaining 10 percent to building the digital infrastructure upon which a fair artificial intelligence will rely.

Market Forces and Future Vision

Bill Gates stated in the report that if market forces are left to themselves, the most advanced tools will be developed for those with the greatest ability to pay, while those who need them most will be left behind.

Foundation CEO Mark Suzman addressed regional efforts such as focusing on low-income regions in Asia and Africa, ensuring that artificial intelligence operates in multiple languages, and utilizing local data.
