Google Announces WeatherNext 3 AI Weather Model

Google has introduced WeatherNext 3, a new artificial intelligence model offering higher accuracy in rain and snow forecasts. Offering images five times sharper than the previous version, the model significantly increases prediction success, especially in regions where local sensors are limited.

High-Resolution Prediction Technology

Unlike traditional supercomputer-based physics simulations, the WeatherNext 3 model works by learning patterns in historical data. This new system can visualize variables such as temperature and humidity at a 5-kilometer resolution.

Global Coverage and Data Processing

The model can generate hourly forecasts by integrating live satellite data. Contrary to the previous 25-kilometer grid structure, the new system offers a much more detailed global weather view.

Google states that, particularly in regions outside the US and Europe, precipitation forecasts made a day in advance yield 50 percent more accurate results despite the lack of local sensors.

Integration and Use Cases

The new artificial intelligence model has been integrated into Google Search, Maps, and Gemini platforms. In addition, it provides support for renewable energy generation thanks to wind speed predictions.

Google emphasizes that this technology aims not to replace traditional physics-based models, but rather to work alongside them to strengthen weather forecasting processes.
