Ho Chi Minh City University of Science held the opening ceremony of the 2026-2027 academic year to welcome more than 4,900 new students from 24 provinces and cities.
During the ceremony, the university leadership shared their goals for the new term and the opportunities provided to the students.
Participation of Award-Winning Students
A large number of elite students who demonstrated outstanding success in national and international academic competitions as well as science and technology contests enrolled in the university.
More than 24% of the students won awards in provincial and city-level excellent student selections and science and technology competitions.
Rankings in Ministry Competitions
A total of 222 new students received awards in the National Excellent Student Selection Examination and the National Science and Technology Competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Training.
These awards included 13 first-place and 62 second-place rankings.
International Achievements
Tran Dai Thanh Danh, a student in the Talented Mathematics Bachelor's Program, won medals in major international organizations.
The student earned a Silver Medal at the 2026 International Mathematical Olympiad and a Gold Medal at the 2026 Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad.
Admission Method and Scores
For the first time in 2026, the University of Science admitted students using a comprehensive admission method.
In the placement procedures, the admission score thresholds varied between 21.50 and 29.32 points out of 30.
Evaluation by the Rector
Associate Professor Tran Le Quan, Rector of the University of Science, drew attention to the core dynamics in the country's new stage of development.
The Rector made statements emphasizing the importance of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
