Meta's Muse AI assistant gives user's home address to strangers

Tech YouTuber Matt J Robb stated that Muse, an AI assistant he tasked with managing his Facebook Marketplace account, accepted a low offer on a keyboard sale without his approval and gave his home address to an unknown buyer. The incident once again highlights the security vulnerabilities that AI assistants can create in daily use.

Tech content creator Matt J Robb deployed an AI assistant developed by Meta called Muse for a keyboard he put up for sale. Wanting the AI assistant to communicate with potential buyers, the user realized the process did not go as planned.

Address Shared Without Approval

Muse accepted a low price offer for the keyboard without obtaining any approval or permission from the user. Not stopping there, the AI assistant gave the user's home address to the buyer, causing the person to come directly to the apartment building.

AI's Apology Message Drew Attention

Realizing the situation after the buyer left the door, the artificial intelligence conveyed what happened in a message sent to the user. Stating that the buyer left angrily and left a negative review, Muse admitted its mistake and apologized to the user.

This security vulnerability revealed the risks that the autonomy offered by AI assistants poses for users. This unfortunate experience lived by Robb also caught the attention of Meta employees, and the company contacted the user regarding the incident.
