Pepperdine University hosted its sixth annual Human-Centered AI Conference at its Malibu campus, addressing the societal impacts of artificial intelligence and its use for the common good.

Scope and Participants of the Conference

Faculty members, students, alumni, global faith leaders, and industry professionals gathered at the Malibu campus to examine the impacts of artificial intelligence.

Co-chaired by Fabien Scalzo and Johnnie Moore, the two-day event featured sessions examining artificial intelligence from various perspectives such as robotics, neuroscience, ethics, and creativity.

Institute of Wisdom and Artificial Intelligence

University President and CEO Jim Gash officially announced the establishment of the Institute of Wisdom and Artificial Intelligence during the event.

This new interdisciplinary initiative aims to integrate Christian thought and academic expertise into questions surrounding artificial intelligence.

Faith and Artificial Intelligence Summit

Held as part of the conference, the inaugural Global Faith and Artificial Intelligence Summit brought together leaders and academics from diverse faiths.

Figures from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and other faith traditions discussed the need to establish a moral compass for artificial intelligence technology.

Expert Speakers and Sessions

Prominent figures such as Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, Rabbi Erez Sherman, Rev. Gregory-Telemachos Stamkopoulos, and Omar Qudrat spoke at the event.

Additionally, artificial intelligence applications in neuroscience, physics, and machine learning were discussed with the participation of figures such as Jonathan Kao and Katie Bouman.

Entrepreneurship and Incubation Support

The university announced the Waves Innovation Accelerator program in partnership with Armada to support students' entrepreneurial projects.
