STEM and Technology Training Provided to Special Education Teachers in Kastamonu
Special education teachers who gathered in Kastamonu within the scope of a TÜBİTAK-supported project received practical training in the fields of science, robotics, and astronomy.
With the "Overcoming Obstacles with STEM-3" project carried out in Kastamonu with the support of TÜBİTAK 4008, special education teachers learned science, technology, and robotics applications.
Objective of the Project
This project implemented in Kastamonu aims to strengthen the access of individuals with special needs to the fields of science and technology. Conducted under the coordination of the Provincial Directorate of National Education, the study equips teachers with new methods.
Participant Profile and Training Process
24 special education teachers from 20 different provinces of Turkey and 6 individuals with special needs participated in the program. The laboratory and workshop studies held at the Measurement and Evaluation Center lasted a total of 40 hours.
Applied Training Modules
In addition to the STEM approach, the training program included fields such as astronomy, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Project coordinator Çağrı Avan emphasized that science should be popularized in special education.
Astronomy and Observation Studies
In astronomy training, which was one of the striking headings of the project, participants used telescopes. Teachers had the opportunity to observe the Sun during the day and the Moon at night.
Teachers' Views
Fatma Gülşah Honi, a hearing impairment teacher participating from Antalya, and Muhammed Murat Ürken, coming from Batman, stated that these trainings will make significant contributions to in-class practices.
