STEM Project for Special Education Teachers in Kastamonu
In a project supported by TÜBİTAK in Kastamonu, special education teachers from 20 provinces received training in science, technology, and robotics.
Within the scope of the project coordinated by the Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of National Education, forty hours of applied science and technology training were conducted for special education teachers from twenty different provinces and for individuals with special needs.
Scope and Objective of the Project
The project implemented in Kastamonu stands out as an important educational initiative aiming to bring individuals with special needs together with science and technology.
Applied Training Program
Special education teachers from different cities of Turkey were brought together within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 4008 Supportive Program for Inclusive Community Practices for Individuals with Special Needs.
During the training held at the Measurement and Evaluation Center, participants acquired both theoretical knowledge and practical experience through laboratory and workshop studies.
Forty-Hour Intensive Process
Project coordinator Çağrı Avan emphasized that science is not sufficiently widespread in the field of special education and drew attention to the importance of such projects.
A total of forty hours of intensive training was carried out within the scope of the program, and it is aimed for teachers to apply the knowledge they acquired in their schools.
Astronomy and Observation Activities
Astronomer Emre Arıtoprak, who took part in the project, provided comprehensive training to teachers in the field of astronomy and had them conduct daytime Sun and nighttime Moon observations using a telescope.
Teachers' Views
Fatma Gülşah Honi, a teacher for the hearing impaired participating from Antalya, and Muhammed Murat Ürken, a teacher from Batman, stated that the training sessions were productive and would contribute to in-class activities.
