Turkey's first space engineers Turgay Karakaş meets with youth
The successful scientist, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and has worked on important defense industry projects, will share his experiences at an event to be held in Afyonkarahisar.
Born with cerebral palsy and ranking among Turkey's first space engineers, Turgay Karakaş will come together with youth in the Bolvadin district of Afyonkarahisar on September 24, 2026, within the scope of the "Inspiring Steps 2" project.
Details of the Seminar
This meaningful seminar, to be organized within the scope of the "Inspiring Steps 2" project, will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 14:00 at the Bolvadin Youth Center.
The program, which is especially open to the participation of youth between the ages of 14 and 29, is expected to draw intense interest and broad participation.
A Life Full of Education and Success
Born with cerebral palsy, Turgay Karakaş achieved unforgettable successes in the world of science despite all the physical and social challenges he faced throughout his life.
Succeeding in ranking among the top 25 nationwide in the 1994 university exam by answering only quantitative questions, Karakaş completed three separate minors in mathematics, physics, and chemistry during his university years.
Defense Industry and Space Studies
Determinedly continuing his academic and practical work in the field of space, Karakaş assumed duties within TÜBİTAK SAGE following his education.
Playing an active role in our country's critical defense industry projects throughout his career, the experienced figure also worked on Turkey's first long-range domestic cruise missile project, SOM.
A Meeting That Will Inspire Youth
Holding the title of "Century of Turkey Scientist," Turgay Karakaş will share his experiences regarding science, technology, space sciences, and his own career journey with young participants at the gathering in Bolvadin.
Organized by the Bolvadin Youth Center affiliated with the Afyonkarahisar Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, the event is also supported by the Bolvadin District National Education Directorate.
