Vietnam Aims for Digital Ocean System to Master Marine Technology
In line with Vietnam's goal of becoming a strong maritime nation, it is necessary to develop marine research, integrate data, and establish digital ocean systems.
During a workshop held to make Vietnam a strong maritime nation, it was emphasized that marine research and data infrastructure must be developed, data must be integrated, and digital ocean systems should be established.
Scientific and Technological Development Goals
Making Vietnam a strong maritime nation requires developing scientific and technological capabilities and innovation capacity through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches.
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, only about 7.5 percent of Vietnam's sea area has undergone detailed geological surveys.
Khanh Hoa Workshop and Minister's Emphases
At a workshop held in Khanh Hoa, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan stated that the country must master the sea through knowledge, data, technology, and innovation.
Four Key Transformations in Marine Research
Professor Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, stated that marine research must undergo four key transformations.
These transformations include transitioning from single-disciplinary research to a multidisciplinary approach, programs addressing major national issues, shared data infrastructure, and mastering strategic marine technologies.
Digital Ocean and Data Infrastructure
Data obtained from research vessels, satellites, observation buoys, marine radars, underwater robots, and dedicated databases are being integrated.
This data forms the basis for developing artificial intelligence for the ocean, forecasting models, digital maps, digital oceans, and digital ocean twins.
